« on: July 13, 2006, 10:43:00 PM »
http://cdbaby.com/cd/iko

Hi there ya'll,my brother and I have a record label called Revion Records .

We just released our very first project and artist -Iko and the album title is -on the peripheral.

It's an instrumental hip hop album ,which means no vocals, that holds its own with Petestrumentals and then some.

The album is available internationally on cd baby or you can just go to the link to sample some tracks.

It sells for 15 dollars on cdbaby and you can get it locally from us for R100.

If you are interested you can just PM your number and I'll give you a call and  find a way to get it to you.

We'd appreciate your support.

Peace

Media / Fade to Black
« on: August 15, 2005, 06:11:48 PM »
i watched this DVD over the weekend and it was awesome,i don't know when it came out but a friend told me about it ,so now i'm spreading the word.

it costs less than a price of  a hip hop cd,i think around R 170 at musica.

its about the process Jayzee went through to get beats for his black album and his Madison square garden sold out concert.Timberland, Pharrel and Kanye west are there, and my favourite scene is when Slick Rick put on his medalion bling on Pretty Toney before he performed at the concert.R Kelly,Beyonce',Mary J,Foxy Brown,Missy ,Twista are some of the perfomers who shared the stage with Jigga.

I'm not a Jigga fan but i've got much respect for him from watching the DVD...how he doesnt write his rhymes ,he keeps them in his head...he has such a phenomenal memory ....much impressed ,i could see why Beyonce' fell for him

i also gained an understanding of the whole album creation process, its an interesting DVD,a genuine value for money...it has common,Qtip ...just about everyone who counts in hip hop...they honoured him with an awesome send off...

Hot Traxxx / SCIENZ OF LIFE
« on: August 13, 2005, 03:37:48 PM »
i recently watched  their project overground DVD which is my first exposure to this group of  american underground rappers...not sure about their vibe,we'll see.As an underground crew they have such a substantial following its amazing...while here in Mzansi  rap musicians battle to get gigs.

i was talking to this rap musician and he told me that promoters have a problem where to fit in hip hop acts unless its a hip hop show....for example would they fit them after Mzekezeke before Malaika?local acts don't excite crowds...or so they say...but you have exceptions like HHP...

the scienz of life dvd got me thinking that hip hop crews should get together and organise their own gigs...own venues ...form a strong hip hop network, i know people are already working towards this...keep on keeping on...

Media / FLYER
« on: April 10, 2005, 09:46:22 PM »
i went to see Flyer  and i enjoyed it ,its about a street kid who became a trapeze artist-a flyer. Its set in Cape Town and the city looks good without being intrusive .I also like the music...there's  Black Sonshine ,Ernie Smith,a rap track and a rock track ...its interested me that the movie showcased south african music...i thought that to be cool. The lead actor is someone I haven't seen on screen before and he did the job.All in all its a feel good movie and i enjoyed it.

I'd like to encourage those who can to go see it and if you love Cape Town ,it looks beautifull in this movie,it was nice for a change to see a film where you actually recognise places you've been instead of some broad generic landscape that could be anywhere...local Films are jacking up their act lets show support....peace

Hot Traxxx / TUKS-Senganga
« on: March 02, 2005, 06:47:30 PM »
Tuks (pronounced tooks),signed to Ghetto ruff ;is the hottest latest MC to hit the YFM airwaves, his track is on AK's countdown ,FRESH has also played him.He raps in predominantly setswana garnished with english , his pace, flow and hunger ...the way he just rips the mic apart...just brings a smile to my face...his talent is a breath of fresh air...in the midst of monotonous beats he stands out....his content  is interesting as well...ok if your not a setswana speaker you won't understand much ,however you'll still apreciate his hotness.

His album is due to drop late this year and looking forward to it, i'll probably revive this thread then....he's definitely one to watch 8)

General Discussion / who pays for your hip hop lifestyle
« on: February 15, 2005, 04:13:42 PM »
hip hop as a lifestyle  carries a heavy price tag...those G-units,branded jeans, branded t-shirts ,the music(cds) and the magz...  like" the source" its not cheap....the internet time...the concerts when the odd overseas cat comes to perform...how do people do it?....unless your parents are in the right income bracket....it's all so expensive!!!

General Discussion / my man
« on: February 15, 2005, 04:01:57 PM »
i've heard my man perform his track called I-D-C...I-DON'T -CARE,I couldn't say i liked it but i was one of the people shouting I-D-C...I-DON'T-CARE,he doesn't look like a typical mrappa with his streetfighter hat and all stars ...he could be mistaken for a kwaito cat however he chose hip hop as a medium of expression and i reckon that he'll have ma** appeal because he's looks like your average chilling on the corner brotha...i was glad to see an AG article on him ...i think he's keeping it real and that makes him authentic...looking forward ...coolness

Hot Traxxx / die ding ruk mal!
« on: February 02, 2005, 06:43:45 PM »
ok,finally i got myself a copy of Kallitz...i wiggled out of my comfort zone and coped me some afrikaans hip hop...i liked a couple of tracks...there's a track called Duidelik...it reminded me of cape town taxi a**istants and another "die situasie"...anyway i'm not feeling afrikaans hip hop ,i'm not comfortable with the flow.I'm also not sure about Boere's rap singing...

On the cover the guys look like the kinda guys who if i was walking alone down the street and they were coming towards me ...i'd cross to the other side, anyway i like the video on the cd, they seem "real" drinking courts and all.

the name Kallitz, i'm not sure what to think...i mean i'm not coloured ...dunno anyway

I'll keep listening....support local hip hop...

Politics / south africa not african enough
« on: February 01, 2005, 03:11:58 PM »
i don't know whose heard anyway Africa is to get a permanent UN seat and the contest was/is between SA and Nigeria ,and the nigerians say that we are not a true reflection of africa because we are essentially not black in terms of our society values. At first I was like wtf? but  when i calmed down I realised that they might have a point.

South african culture is more eurocentric than afrocentric, with all the xenophobia and stuff going on,our african brothers are not blind to this.

I'm still uneasy about it ,not sure but its something to think about...how african is south africa?
