Tuks was signed on the backdrop of Baphixile success last year after selling over 16 000 copies of their third album- APESAM BACKWARDS...setswana rap has finally arrived...the Setswana rap acts releasing this year are Baphixile produced by Revolution,Twistyle-the album was done before Iggy pa**ed on,HHP produced by Amu,Morafe and Tuks both signed to Ghetto Ruff....

the only person i don't know about is Stoan with his "tsela di matlapa " solo attempt....

it seems that 2005 is gonna be good for setswana rappers and i hope that people are encouraged to rap in their mother tongue....

Tuks (pronounced tooks),signed to Ghetto ruff ;is the hottest latest MC to hit the YFM airwaves, his track is on AK's countdown ,FRESH has also played him.He raps in predominantly setswana garnished with english , his pace,flow and hunger ...the way he just rips the mic apart...just brings a smile to my face...his talent is a breath of fresh air...in the midst of monotonous beats he stands out....his content  is interesting as well...ok if your not a setswana speaker you won't understand much ,however you'll still apreciate his hotness.

His album is due to drop late this year and looking forward to it, i'll probably revive this thread then....he's definitely one to watch

Is this legit?I cant believe she'd lose something with all these numbers and contacts in.

I should send this thru to buds overseas and let them ring peeps up.WOuld be cool if they r official numbers.Imagine that.Btw, how'd u ppl find out bout this though?

apparently their legit, the story is someone hacked into her phone...you know one of these phones that are linked to computers...i don't have one but its becoming popular to link your phone and laptop/pc..blue tooth techonology and all of that...

i would have tried to call them just to verify but i've got nothing to say to these people...to me they're just a bunch of strangers who are popular in the media...it would be cool if someone tried though..

i think its just further american imperialism....mtvbase is not about Africa..its about increasing american music sales in Africa ...that's it nothing more and nothing less....if african artists can get anything out of it, its a secondary objective....the aim is to americanise africans....

i hope the SA hip hop community does not fall victim and starts to focus too much on what's going on in the states...while their learning curve is reaching its end ,ours is reaching a critical stage and africa is the future of music ,so we shouldn't buy into their stuf,get intimidated and start feeling inferior...not lose sight of what their tryn to do...keep on keeping on...Aluta continua!

As for reaching out to gr8r ma**ess, this is only the first joint yo, i believe they'll try to put more unknown ish in the future...

i don't really think so...but i hope i'm wrong...judging from their content..they seem to be going around in the same boring jozi circles...most of hype is pretty much what's common knowledge in joburg ....the editor doesn't even try to explore some of the lesser known joburg peeps let alone the rest of the country.....i urge people to write to Fungayi and let him know where he's going wrong...hype is the only hip hop magazine in the country the least he can do is find out what his readers want...i admit its not easy we are diverse but that should be a challenge not a deterrent.....

Frankly, i'm sick of the same jozi mcs they all sound the same anyway...i know that jozi hip hop is not a true reflection of  SA hip hop...i have friends overseas who are curious about the state of hip hop here and sending them a copy of hype will not give them an honest view....

Fungayi missed an opportunity with this compilation to do something great,to show the diversity that is SA hip hop....yes you can't please everybody....but it wouldn't hurt to try.

that's my only crit about the compilation...its seems to be concentrating on joburg, including the innovators was a good call...ok POC is there...but that's old school ...i wanted to hear peeps from durbs and cape town  representing what's hot in other places....trusenz..kallitz would have added something special to the compilation...
