Producers - Discussion / what hardware do you recommend i get?
« on: September 20, 2004, 05:44:00 PM »
hey Mumia, it all depends on the type of vibe ur going for I guess. If ur just starting out, I think stick to software as ur basis to get a feel for structure and overall style u wanna settle into.U basically stick to my software cause cashflow for hardware is not too friendly and u gotta cut costs where u can.So that serves me well.Usually peeps doing sampling sample off of turntables and for that any turntable would do.Also u gonna have to pre-amp that baby as the signal is most likely gonna be way tiny. But Nyambz can hit u up on that vibe as to what to do in that regard, I am sure.

But what´s ur current setup like?Hit me up on here or PM if u wish.Keep it all good cuz.Much luv.

I´m glad to see I´m not the only one listening to other musical genre´s.

I can´t stay locked into tunnel listening cause it bores me.Its always better to keep it all diverse. It also opens u up to more ideas and more styles that could influence ur music in a positive way, and a different way.

Rock, jazz, r&b, soul, reggae, deep house, country (i´m serious with this one), drum ´n ba**........many others all help to enhance ur musical style, even if u dont use much of any others in ur hip hop music. One of my favs to listen to is always Vusi Mahlasela.ANother is of course Matchbox20.Rob Thomas´ intensity lyrically and the whole musical experience. Its just so tight.

So many others to mention, but one thats currently standing out at the moment is Wesley Solomon (from Cape Town who´s just currently arrived on the scene.......sure to hit it big soon in the Neo-soul/jazz-funk tip).Wesley is receiving some nice airplay on Good Hope fm with a song called Scribe Me.Its not officially released in Stores, but I got a copy. That song is just so nice and jazzy.Vocally on point.Pure Niceness.

But ya, thats just my 2 cents again.Much luv.

No Doubt B.

U got that on point. It is not always easy to maintain that lyrical play when doing a concept track, but when surrounded by peeps who are on the same page as u, it becomes so easy.Cause basically u throw ideas around and kick concept type plays around that keep u on point.I notice, I used to function better that way, with peeps around who share the same page.Beats are the same, cause 2/3 like minds are always better than 1.Like, but from different points of view.Thats why co-producing is always more exciting for me.On that same point, co-writing is so much more enjoyable for me too.Writing solo is cool too, depending on the mood ur in or track ur busy with.

I would like to hear him spit it.U make a poignant statement there (subliminally) as flow is so important too.It just rounds it off. Also, battle raps get boring but concept songs always stay relevant.Political, spiritual, social, whatever. Its always interesting to hear peeps´ perspectives.

But hey, hit u back some time in the week.Much luv.

Chills Konfab, str8 chills.

U know why?Its what I´ve been wanting to hear for some time now.I´ve been wanting to drop stuff like this some time back, but things never seem to happen u way u plan them. And there´s always a reason for things happening the way they do.This type of rhyme (or rather) heartfelt poetry, is what inspires me.And I´m sure countless others. This is where its at.I´ve been way past battle raps for a long time now.Its all ok for a little while, but thats it......a little while.I wanna pop a disc in and I wanna be taken on a mental trip thats gonna have me debating and contemplating.

Konfab....its beautiful man.It really is.If I still wore a cap, I´d take it off to ur poetry cuz.If survive is this tight.......I am sure the other epics follow suit.I would really like to check out ur other work. The cd launch is gonna be tight. For real.Much luv cuz.Just my little 10 cents in the mix.

Keep it all tight.

Hey Ladies

How are we this wonderful chilly morning?Just wanna send some shouts of much respect and luv to u.U guys r starting the ball rolling and its tight like that.

Just wanted to know something. This Abom´rapper u speaking bout B, is that the same peeps who dropped that song recently with that guy from Generations in their vid?The guys who used to play Shaun on backstage, back when backstage had some credibility and before Mr Duke with his "magnificent, brilliant, Oscar-winning" acting started becoming a regular.

Btw, u didnt hear me utter the words "backstage" ok.I cant have my credibility drop amongst my peeps.lol.

Its all luv.Keep us posted on the progress.Lets take this hip hop further and expand, build and elevate.......not just salivate.Cause we all know we can all talk, but doing is whole other ballgame. Its a big step, but worth the exercise.

Much luv.

BHLAKHROZE, most def, it would be tight too hook up with u peeps.I was just talking to Eesh (aka Syntactic) last nite bout Konfab and he said he was/is an affiliate of Groundworks. If so, understandable to comprehend his tightness.GW know how to put it down.

Also, luving the quotables that peeps have posted in their posts, of his.Nice construction.I really, seriously, gotta hear some of his stuff.Who´s gonna be doing the mastering of the album? Is it gonna be a pro-house, or u guys hooked up on that.Hope u guys got a hook up, cause then it would be so much lower in cost.

Also, please keep me and the others posted on the cd launch. Its gonna be nice.Would luv to peep it.Its all luv.Lets keep them communication lines open.Tight like that.U guys also know where to find me via email: bricktop@webmail.co.za

Thanx D for the hit back.

We´ll most def be in contact with collabo ideas and possible project stuff.I guess we´re looking toward closer to year end, rather than real soon as there´s much coming up.But who knows, maybe it could all change too.But will keep u posted too.Anyways, also hit me with ur regular email addy then we can be in contact like that.

Its all good cuz and I hope that vid shoor goes well.I´ll check with syntactic too.As I know, he´s a pretty busy guys with much on his plate. But it would  be tight to have u guys on the show.Just that exposure.Btw, he had Lance Stehr, CEO of Ghetto Ruff, on the show last week.Thats tight.U know, u should maybe forward a dem to Lance them and see maybe u could hook up a distribution deal ala Master P, back in the day with Priority.Worth looking into. Also, maybe u could chat with Syntactic as to ideas he may have for u guys for distribution. He may be able to help, no guarantee, but worth talking to peeps.More u talk, the more u get to know.U vibe.

Its all luv.Keep it all good.Madd$tone.

Hey BHLAKHROZE

I´m hearing so much bout Konfab, but to be honest havent heard anything of his as such.Where in ct is he residing at the mo and whats his vibe like? Also, u say he´s finishing up his stuff soon...good to hear, so has he hooked up with Syntactic yet?he´s got a show on GHfm called the Homebrew.he should forward some stuff to Syntactic and let him hear some of that. From what I hear u peeps say bout Konfab´s stuff, I´m sure he´ll like it and u could be able to arrange an interview too.Nothing better than ma** exposure.U know what I mean.Ancient Men r getting madd luv on GHfm too.Underground represent.

Also, u got some ruff snippets of his u could refer me to on the net, or could u send a few samples perhaps via email to bricktop@webmail.co.za

U also dropping an album too? When is that and whats the mood gonna be like?Hit me back with some info please.Thanx and much luv.Madd$tone.
