General Discussion / Re: Gareth Cliff's Letter
« on: October 25, 2010, 07:50:41 PM »

dude. mn!

as a question of interest, lets play a 94 scenario, what kind of transition would you have structured, to get to this end where we have a non-corrupt system leading to non corrupt government?

Quote
^^^ one that says no to protecting land that is all in white hands, no to paying off the apartheid debt, relations with the west at our terms or no relations at all and one tha would eventually usher in a Black socialist state.

Sadly but not suprisingly, The president has given dude man his ear for the letter, now ims sure there's plenty of Black people who've said a lot of stuff but never got this.

No offence intended but I'm sure some will be taken anyway so whatever, but I think the a**umption that there exists a transition that could definitely lead to a non-corrupt system & non-corrupt government is flawed as f***.
Every possible system of regime change has been tried and none has reliably demonstrated a positive outcome.
The alternative to the relatively peaceful transition we got would've been revolution, cos we didnt get a revolution, that would have meant a complete destruction of all existing institutions & starting from scratch... that wasnt seen as a viable option by the ANC and its struggle partners cos they didnt represent an actual military threat and they knew it. It would've been a case of Palestine vs Israel. Also the struggle in exile wasnt big enough to provide all the expertise required to maintain economic viability, food security, civilian rule of law etc.
You're looking at thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands more innocent people dead, also in order to even slightly effectively challenge the very well trained and resourced SA Army at the time would've meant help from their friends the USSR and Angola, and if military personnel from another country had crossed into this country which still had sovereignty in the eyes of the international community, then expect the US at least and possibly others to jump in on the side of the Apartheid gov, thats just what we would've needed.

I'm not saying we should be happy with what we got or that what we got is great and not f***ed up, but there are lots of lovely ideals and dreams of the perfect country according to the individuals ideology but Sosiba name me one successfully functioning socialist state (regardless of its racial split) and/or one functioning prosperous state with no relationship with the international community.
I know you said west, but do you seriously think the east embodied in China are our friends and saviours?

And you cant call China on either of those points becos they had nearly half a century of grinding poverty and frightening levels of corruption until the capitalist policy shifts which have made it the rising superpower it is today, and without the world to sell to China wouldn't have shit.

go on the offensive, a taser might  not be a bad idea, but he's in a f***ed up situation exacerbated by being on the fringes of society (look he might well not be I know how many peeps squat in Amsterdam, but the best way to cover his a** is gonna be to use the established part of society that sees squatters as vermin.
Get a case of theft at the cops ASAP, say he confronted them and he was a**aulted, he should be sure to state that the guy was there as well, she says he beats women, he needs to say he was a**aulted by both. try to record every threat he gets with pics if possible, also sort out a bolthole, get some buddy who will be cool with a short notice crash on couch if he's gotta bounce quick. Put together a dash-bag, 1 back pack with his essential doccies, small possessions and a few t shirts and undies.
Then anytime enters a room have the recorder on his phone on and record it all, if you want to bring it to a head fast, broach the issue, which should get them blowing up with outrage. Maybe clandestinely incite another a**ault while he got a taser/stungun (actually pepperspray would work better) and shock both of them, while they writhing on the ground immediately call the cops, shouting, beg them for help you"re being "attacked".
Pepperspray would be better cos once they blind f*** em up a bit with single hard shots with a "girly weapon" heavy frying pan, use single really hard shots, its hard to prove self defense if the attacker has multiple contusions, he must appear as the dominated victim but if he can crack a skull, all the better.

What can I say I've always had a thing for tims, But I'll admit the baby blue ones were a mistake, I've worn them like 4 times since i bought them 3 years ago, I wear my honey ones regular and they as waterproof as advertised 6yrs down the line. I got a pair of black tim sneaks also which make trail running easy.

Teko could be off FORM but he could still pull a game changin shit in the NEXT two minutes. Shit that Mayambela would need the whole SEASON to achieve...

Its exactly this sort of bullshit rationale that has given us one of the lowest scoring leagues and national teams in the world, its like someone forgot to include "consistency" between "caTAGory" and "COUNT-ree" in SAFA's dictionary.
Teko COULD shit a golden statue of Khanyi Mbau, but I'm not gonna hold my breath till he does. Call me when we get some f***er who scores day in and day out and gets 25+ goals a season, till then I'm not interested.

A great case study would be the KoL cats, they do the closest thing to a tour in SA, a Jozi gig and a CPT gig... and they work kak hard, and they stress and push and out on good shows and have been doing so for a minute and they still have to push for their sponsorships, nothing ever falls in your lap.
And they do it for the love mostly cos not one of them is living large by any stretch of the imagination.

What you need for a tour is an audience.
Having been involved peripherally and centrally in the staging of a few events of varying profiles in my time I can tell you that even putting on small events costs, in time and money and while you can save some money by putting in more time in some areas, certain things require people who are not you to do stuff for which they most likely would prefer to get paid (flyer/website design/ sound rental, press pack, etc) and while you can often get shit sponsored or risk like once or twice, sponsors generally need to see Return On Investment.
So dude who gave you sound is gonna do it free now cos you homeys but he's expecting payment at some point, if your event isn't making cash after like 1st 2, he's never gonna do shit for you again.
and thats a single event.
Tours need sponsors big enough to cover transport and logistics of artists, crew and possibly sound (given the low level of infrastructure outside of major urban centers in SA, nothing can be a**umed).
You generally also need local promoters to get your marketing out, you need the right size venues and you need to know you're gonna fill the joint.
As far as hip hop in this country goes there aren't many people I can think off who're willing to drop the cash a good tour needs on any act that isn't what pa**es for A-List in SA.
So basically HHP and maybe Teargas, Jozi, JR and this Kwesta kid are the only viable vehicles for tours that'll give a sponsor ROI as far as most funders are concerned.
If I was you, I'd making sure every local gig I do is packed out before I start thinking of touring.
