Dictatorship of radio stations
As a person who believes in freedom of speech i was disgusted by our local radio show for the ignorance they show towards hip hop as a whole.Being located in Port Elizabeth its even harder to get good music cos of dictatorship by record labels and the people who runs the radio shows.My constant crave for good music had me go to extensive means to hear new tracks even going as far as ressurecting a aerial on my roof to get reseption to ma**dosage´s radio show on Rhodes music radio in Grahamstown well that was in the early 90´s and not alot has changed.Spending thousands of rands to get the latest sounds had people thinking im crazy well what is craziness?I guess craziness is going all the way to East London to go buy that de la soul cd without prior knowledge of where i would be resting my head! 3 feet high and rising and im still alive.

Radio should be the voice of the nation but what has it become nothing but a marketing tool for label heads to spit there propaganda.Who or what has spawned this rage within me to come out and write a article on radio shows and its dictatorship?well i was outraged by local "community" radio station cbfm who refuses to give hip hop its righteous spot alongside all the other popular genre´s.Management refuses to even speak about the matter after they claimed we have a vendetta against the station cos we not part of it.ha ha what a ignorant statement cos to me hip hop is not about me im merely a vessel thats transporting the message to people.Im not the only person thats feeling like this but im one of them that took the initiative to go out and speak out against it,even if im to be crucified like christ or tortured like steve biko im still gonna go out and speak out against them! whoever they might be.What can be done to change the format of radio should we close our ears or pump our fist?How will local talent be revealed if you have hater stations not giving local and when i say local i mean people within our city the chance to showcase there skills why should it allways be a scenario where it has to be what do you have to offer us?my next question will be what is the purpose of a community station and who decided the current board of dirrectors cos i was never given the option to vote?Look at bush radio (
www.bushradio.co.za) and look at local station
www.cbfm.co.za and compare the two bush has done and is continuing to do for the community cbfm is rejecting ideas thats coming forth not that we want it to be a station that just caters for us but for all genre´s but no we the black sheep of the family!The following statement was given after a topic we started on local site
www.freebie.co.za was deleted cos it questioned cbfm´s legality and why it rejects our idea for a hip hop show at midnight that will cater for the hungry hip hop heads.
"Hi there. Just so you know, CBFM had nothing to do with the forum being removed. We were given a call by the administrators of freebie, who were of the opinion that the issue could/should be resolved in private and that their site was not the place for a battle of the wills.
Perhaps if you have a problem with this idea you should confront them and find out there real reasons before going and starting another forum that has no basis in fact.
