Media / Cape Town gig
« on: October 21, 2006, 05:44:05 PM »
what conspiracy?  :?
dunno anything abt it for all i know could be true don giv a f***... issue should really be: why are these outsider organisers coming to OUR scene, organising a gig through US, packing OUR night in the club with OUR people if they don't feel OUR shit... and don't even the decency to consider OUR judgment? of course i knew cats were gonna win they were candy as f*** and i HAD already heard what kind of judges they were... i'm not tryna get into a grimy esoteric abstract vs accessible rap discussion... i'm just saying that the crowd was disgruntled cos they didn't feel that shit deserved to win... there actually is a following limited as it may be (so what?) for this shit - call it elitist whatever... the point is that WE come to this place to get away from the superficial nonsense we're constantly being force fed through media... leave us the f*** alone if you're not feeling us, don't now come to our space and impose on us that very thing we tryna get away from

glad y'all feelin  :D

aaight check it... the trk concept is 'what?' s'posed to make u say dat... that was the brief...
so cats had to come on some convoluted twisted nonsense tip...
hence sketch talkn abt blind peeps lookn at ..., jaak makin up words 'pa-poem-pom-penster!' n i goin at supersonic pace etc...

so i can't really giv much away abt wht's bein rapped abt... twud defeat whol pt-> wht i can say tho is that it'll only make u go 'what?' on surface level... amidst all the kerfuffle cats really are making good sense

@tate: no real profanity in the joint but i've never really known wht makes a joint radio friendly... i think, content aside, this comes off a bit too hard for commercial radio  wudn u say?

is this the same prince with 25 albums to his name?

prince, one of the most influencial musicians of our time, that one?

prince, the multi-platinum, multi-award winning, worldwide megastar?

i think we need to re-appraise what the term 'slept on' actually means.

Politics / Are BLAQs RACIST??
« on: October 05, 2006, 01:51:36 PM »
it's true!! darkies are racist:

i know it seems i’m always inciting tribal wars
sorry meneer but as my mind recalls you’ve swindled us once before
still i smile to display 2 white lines of plain truth
by design straight skew - you can’t bite the swine that pays you
cos through the eye of a navel a slice of the cake will do
might as well love your neighbour if you’d like a place at his table
yes this is war but not so black and white like us versus the boers
they might dislike us slightly but it’s likely the british more
cos queen elizabeth and gang conditioned this man
now he speaks english with a twang, an easy distinction when i crammed
but a lot of brits often think i speak with an american accent
and that it happened by accident – ‘scrap affirmative action!’
the dopest verses of KONFAB versus joseph conrad
it starts in the heart at the darkest hour – consult the notepad
or better yet the tomlinson commission – exhume the report
it’s true apartheid was made from the anger and bruises of the anglo-boer war
ask broederbond vagabond k******-boetie by day
vandal looting of chief tshwane by night blinded by brights the future’s today
your rights have expired resign or retire we’re tired of crying in silence
time to rise up - i’ll raise your façade without facial ma**age
and make you watch the racial masks get taken apart
from a bystander’s perspective white man doesn’t respect this
wide census government elected - his highness president and friends
cypher representatives that might never let us in!
your false promises got your own partisans cold and poor in a township pen
paupers starving in a place they call dladleni
life is not just breathing and breeding but being, seeing, bleeding
eating even believing life is not just
remanded to the land of the banished propagate poverty
inherited a segregated economy evil ongoing
even our very own with bureaucratic boer autonomy

cold war, swart gevaar, they’re up in arms
lower your swords – the hardest part is ‘art of waar’
your vocal chords just mutter kak from the uppermost strata
show remorse it starts in the heart at the darkest hour

cape property rates and all considered a normal nigga
working a formal 9-5 position only just survives in this city
and it’s twice as shitty for so-called minor skill labourers
yes this is what most of my role-models is labelled as
in this day and age imagine having caucasian havens
in this very land adjacent to zimbabwe of all places but wait
it holds for all races cos even in the streets i seen bill gates
and not in the form of toll roads i’m talking of lost souls
projecting wealth and investing self like whores but moreso
also process thought from lower torso balls colossal
the gall to call it progression – forfeited discretion and honour gone
profits not apportioned accordingly
private sector on a**ignment to silence the middle cla** with a little cash
didn’t miss the catch get rich fast and relinquish your past but business is bad
makes whites seem better than you, makes the lightness of beings unbearable
makes misers wanna keep even the residue just tryna guarantee their personal receipt of the revenue
it’s a new day in the south fools here’s the crown but the jewels stay ours
the truth tastes sour ‘fools here’s the crown but the jewels stay ours’
substitute a D ADD a NC and suddenly see HDI rise to HNIC
SABC’s the mouthpiece - since they released the darkies - still they believe
we’re ugly dummies extravagant pudgy thuggies that repeat their undies
your demonstration of excellence is an isolated event
you’re made into an exception who paid attention in their made up lectures
racist attempts to convince us we’re xenophobic not really realising
we’re fela kutis in our own right – defeaters of silence
got more respect for de kock who confessed, repented and meant it
than for the rest of the flock content and unaffected rejecting responsibility
while black sheep, scapegoat serves a lengthy sentence, a lesson in our own stupidity

ah yeah i see where you comn from transition between frames not quite in sync with beat...

but i see some ways in which they do gel:

--when he says "head bangers... head crack" in the beginning and dude appears with cracked skull...
--when he talks abt "currency shifters" and "we in a state of emergency" george w appears on a podium waving his arms about...
--when he talks abt "future fulla promise" and "my crew's got no loot" the huge $1.00 note appears...
--when he says "subliminals that come alive like cinemax" you see in rich crimson that sticks out from other colours, the word McMall...
--when he talks about sneakers and his tag being kaptin not to be worn out, you see all these brands nike=pike, guess=gas being ripped off in the background...
--everytime hook comes on the image appears to always somehow represent his being in the frontlines...

...and the overall theme of the story behind the animation just seems to tie in with what he's talking abt... but i've been known to read too much into these things, might actually all just be coincidence  :)

you havent offered even remote substantation how the internet could possibly be used as the utimate and (i'm a**uming) 'evil' emissary of globalisation and why it would do harm to Africa.

ya sorry you're right i haven't been substantiating... mainly cos i take for granted that you can appreciate the pivotal role the information age has played in economic globalisation... i'll spell it out for you: advancements in computer and communications technology (such as internet) have catalysed the global economy by enabling trade and investments to flow more easily between countries... translated, this is to say that capitalism (in the form of capital flow and trade in currencies) can now be constituted on a transnational basis without regard for borders blah blah blah...

whether you see this as an 'evil' is a matter of opinion... and since you're an idealist who believes in the inherent goodness of man, you're incapable of ever seeing it my way which is that:

neocolonialism is very real and all globalisation does is facilitate this new form of imperialism where africa remains economically dependent on the west (in perpetuity)... for this reason they will always have indirect control over us... a significant proportion of the african national product is already allocated to payment of interest on accumulated foreign debts...

and again... globalisation is not sensitive to social justice therefore as in the case of south africa now, it becomes possible for a country to thrive economically in the international arena whilst the runt of the litter continue to suffer down below

Quote
your argument is laden with emotion,  not ideal in a rational argument and usually leads to subjective beliefs rather than objective truths. I'm an idealist in that I claim that people are basically and intrinsically good and that they care

you're right... this is where we fundamentally differ... in light of the manner in which africa has been ravaged by the west pre, during and now post-colonialism, i cannot find it in my rationale to place faith in their intrinsic goodness

hahah... argued like a true idealist Very Happy

the revolution/renaissance will not be televised/aired online chap Wink

let me rephrase: the internet is the ultimate emissary of globilisation and this phenomenon will not be to africa's benefit... solarman is talking about "capitalising internally" as an escape from the former colonialists' clutches -> this line of thought is mutually exclusive with africa jumping onto the neo liberal economics bandwagon... globalisation does not benefit the poorest of the poor - only big corporations... hence the schism even in south african politics between the socialists (zuma) and the neo liberal economists (mbeki) -> it's again a micro vs. macro debate, though even on a macro level i've got my doubts regarding its long-term benefits...

it'll be my hand that slaps the back of your head in 25yrs time when the true evils of globalisation have daylighted and africa's still broke as uckf while caucasian apologists continue to promenade it on the world stage under the tacit banner "awww... look what they continue to do to themselves - let's give them more of our aids"...

those wretched american exchange students of anthropology (read: study of african primates) won't even need to leave home anymore to patronise us...
