Abdullah Ibrahim concert

Did anyone go to the concert?
was it any good?

yeah went through.
Started late but was worth the wait.
Tshidis' father is legendary yo, he gets lost in that piano, its like he gets into some kind of trance where nothing else exists. Its was my first time to see him live and i see the fuss.

At 72 he still has energy to keep going til 12 midnite coz thats when we left that auditorium.
the laucnh of the jazz orchestra is a great initiative and will provide a platform for the countless talented musicians in the cape.
a**ociation with Dr Ibrahim will definitely work in their favour but they also will do big things independently. The sound of a live orchestra is one of the best feelings in the world for me. the way the instruments work together, The sax, ba**, and trobone!!!! and then piano comes in, trumpets, guitar, yo!

last year april there ws an article about the cape town jazz orchestra and Adbullah's vision for it.
I tried to establish contact with him so I could photograph their exodus, but had to direct my correspondence via mseven music college(wonder if that's the correct name for the college?)

long story short, i didnt get to document it.
would love to hear their stuff.

was it avant gaurde?or was it 104.9 type of jazz?

You will get to hear them, they've got quite a schedule planned, if I find out when and where I'll post it up here.

It was indeed an avant garde affair but not elitist. Its nice to have somewhere to wear a suit to once in a while ain't it? otherwise it just gets small in ya wardrobe...

not trynna kill this thread,, but y'll heard the story abt the Manneberg song, apparently being jacked from some early recording. from a crew that neva really blew....'t was on the Sunday Times website a coupla weeks ago. they even uploaded both compositions....weird shit. bt i stil lov Papa se musiek.

a real treat. is seeing him perform with his wife. sathima bea benjamin. hers is a lazy. very leisurely voice. like we got all night ladies and gentlemen. all night. and him there. making love to the keys.

his wife is grossly underrated.

@ naturelle - will appreciate that schedule,good form on the dresscode advice -will make sure the shoes are shined up. :wink:
