well the reason for the similarity tween the 1098 and the 916 and the difference in general shape tween it and the desmo, is that the desmo employs exactly the same frame as the world superbike series "Ducats" which go with a more hexagonal frame to keep narrow lines. the 1098 and the 916 have really big combustion chambers so they need a wider frame, also the wider frame is more "street-bikey" cos they more comfortable, a wider flatter tank is easier to tuck over when you hitting redline on a highway.
As to pricing D, get ready to sell your car and put some more on top of that, more than 250 grand... but you do get the lightest, quickest lapping Ducati of all time.
On bike stuff, particularly Saskia might appreciate this one, I got to ride a Buell lightning XB12s last week as in..
might not look like much but thats a Harley 1200 v-twin stuffed into a very short very light frame... truly the most nuts to the wall streetfighter I've ever ridden, no European refinement, just filling loosening muscle... for two hours every other bike at the robots were lunch, I killed a Fireblade, a CBR 1000, a Hayabusa and a Ninja zx12R (in retrospect this was a lil sad cos i normally ride a 900 Ninja  )
The top end isn't all that great but point to point.. jeeezus!!! 8O 8O 8O
