Well, that´s waht you get when "quality hip-hop" or "tight hip-hop" is controlled by wack men and when so-called hip-hop heads stay in the so-called "underground" (their bedrooms) with their tight-a** joints

anyway, WERE YOU THERE or NOT?

I was at the gig up in Midrand
There were some nice performances that "Tonite" (selvyn ripped it) song went down well as well as that other "Haa Suka" track (Dunno about Naked´s rhyming skills though). It got shitty when some guy the ladies loved came on and started taking his clothes off to reveal his not so sexy beer belly UUUrrrgghh!
All in all a good gig.
Looks like the album will sell given that Y is behind it and they got some of today´s popular (not necessarily good) rappers on there.
Oh yeah Boza was there too. Dunno why he calling himself the champ?...Think He & that fool Mao need to battle it would be hard to call the both on the same level son..
Check em out at Roxy´s?

It’s time for me come clean

I started this forum wanting to hear you views about the standard of live performances in Jozi. I don’t mean to sound like a “playa hater”. I know that I must support rappers but at the same time I feel robbed everytime I support them. I’m also trying to avoid doing a “shine on my shine” on rappers, but I think the standard of live performances in Jozi is doo-doo.

Honestly, I believe for cats to have albums before they go through rapping in front of a drunk capacity crowd holding beer cans/ bottles ready throw them on you when you rap doo-doo, or rapping in clubs where the only security is the bouncer at the door and one/ two inside who are not doing their jobs cuz they busy with chicks must not should be a no-no.

Truth be told, Skwatta, the “Ramesh household” (Ramesh, Shera, Fortune and Naked DJ), Selwyn (sometimes), suck when in come to live delivery. I was at last week’s launch Fortune’s CD and have to say the performances were kak, the only cat that held it down was HHP. I don’t know where do SK and the Ramesh brothers get this rap at the same shit of theirs. It’s cool to back each other, but not the whole verse as if they competing on who can rhyme the loudest. Some of the can’t even hold the mic, which disgrace when you consider that these cats have CDs out.

These cats show they never received the training in rapping. Don’t get me wrong you can sound nice on tracks but stage is a different story.

I agree, most rapsters just dont have their ish together on stage. its the most annoying thing when you have a man/woman on stage ripping it (or so they think) and putting all their energy into the performance but you can´t hear shit cause their holding the mic too close or too far or just not talking properly.
I think, in SA especially, there´s more money to be made on gigs than record sales cause the market is not suffienctly developed (most MC´s are recording underground (basement) and there just isn´t proper distribution) but there is a large and growing scene who will go to performances if they are ill. Clever MC´s will work on their live act to draw crowds and build a REAL (not TV, radio induced)  fan base (supporters) at the same time!!

Just Opinion

PS. Prokid is an exciting MC we´ll see what happens with him, he said he´ll be releasing soon, keep your ear to the streets (eye on the screen... AG wut wut)
