Fifa reveal World Cup 'Plan B'

Sepp Blatter has confirmed that Fifa have made contingency plans in case the 2010 World Cup cannot be held in South Africa.

Blatter remains extremely confident that South Africa will be ready to stage the tournament but there are still concerns about security problems in the area.

Those worries have prompted reports that Fifa might look for new hosts and Blatter admits an alternative is in place.

"I would be a very negligent president if I hadn't put away in a drawer somewhere a plan B," said Blatter.

"However, only a natural catastrophe would change things.

"If we had to activate the plan B, we would take our decision after the Confederations Cup."

The Confederations Cup is set to be held in South Africa next year and will act as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup.

i don't think they are worried about car jackings, murders or rape - the only thing that can f*** up a world cup is political instability. when citizens start rioting and murdering people, it's easy to understand why red flags start going up at FIFA.

Take for example i live in yeoville and shit and thats a stone throw away from Ellis park. and honestly nothing has changed, recently they started changing the pavement and installed new street lights but that bout it! We still have run down buildings, criminals are still at it and I still hear at least 3 gun shoots after dark! so yeah!

Now our president doesn't see anything wrong with the Zim saga and took 3 weeks to respond to the xenophobic attacks!

Considering this if I was Fifa i would also have a plan "B" aka plan "Australia"

that's a good question - you'd think out of courtesy they'd have to let the former hosts have a spot as SA wouldn't have had a chance to qualify.

Perhaps plan B would go to a country that already qualified, leaving a spot for SA.
