been a kwaito head for a minute.. would u cla**ify that christos jam with lebo on the vocals.. sekele.. early kwaito?

anyway i digress.. vibe squad was the truth..
most consistent kwaito act is surely thebe.. he has a banger on every single album..
BoP's always on point.. trompies' also proper..
been on the lookout for that makwerekwere track off the 1st boom shaka.. anyone remember it? helluva cla**ic..

2.Bongo Maffin "DCC prod! Thandiswa ans Speedy vocals,Stoan on raps,Seed on ragga" MONSTER COMBINATION!

3.Zola "MOST LYRICAL KWAITO CAT EVER!"

4.Mandoza "i Still say CLAIMER is the greatest kwaito song of all time!"

5.Mzambiya "Gotta luv his flow and swag" -the next ZOLA

Kalawa JazzMe are the true GODS of Kwaito. Let's See.

Brother of Peace & Mageu
Trompies
Boom Shaka
Bongo Maffin
Mafikizolo
Alaska
The Hunger Boys(Senyaka & Kamazu)
Thebe

I do love me some Kalawa Jazzme label. The Trompies, Alaska, and Boom Shaka (RIP
Lebo), and Thebe were my favorite. I remember at one time I didn't feel M'du when
I was in High School but since I've started digging in the crates, I began to like
his stuff. I didn't know that he was the brains behind Mashamplani and MaKapKap.
I like Arthur's earlier stuff but after Sikelele l'keke, I started to like his music less.

I also remembered when Cape Town had a Kwaito sceen. O'demeester and Funny
 Carp were live.

i was a fan sing the Di-Gong days when you would have the Shangaan Disco (Joe Shirimane, Esta M, Penny Penny) giving the kwaito peoples a run for they money and i dont think i ever liked kwaito as much after 2000 there wasnt as much fire and things just done changed. I did enjoy stuff from L'vovo with his very housey kwaito and Mzeksman with the humour and that was a lovely angle for kwaito i believe. Anyway fact is IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME LIKE THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

Yeah, I do feel Mzekezeke because him and Brown Dash still have that creative
local style of Kwaito while the now "House" DJs have gone for a more European
angle. I admire Sbu, T'zozo and Professor, Cleo, and Brothers of Peace for doing
African House music but it's already been done. Masters of Work (who are Dominican-American) and other US and European DJs have blended the
Afro-Latin flavor in House music for ages. And if I want Afrobeat rhythems,
I could listen to a Nigerian artist, not a South African one (not saying South
African can't do Afrobeat but I'm just saying, the Afro-House thing has already
been done). And Kwaito was the next best thing since Afro-House.

With Kwaito dividing, as I mentioned, it reminded me of how comparable it is to
the state of UK Garage. Garage which also had it's roots in House music is now
divided into 2 scenes now, Grime (more of a Hip-Hop sound) and Dubstep (Drum
and Ba** and Dub sound). The House element is still there but you only hear
very little of it.

Just as Kwaito rappers wanted to do Hip Hop back in the days, Garage artists
origionally wanted to Hip Hop or Drum and Ba**. Dizzee Rascal, Wiley, Oxide,
Neutrino, DJ Zinc and Skibbadee, were into Drum and Ba** while Asher D, Kano,
Lethal B, Shystie, and Lady Soverign wanted to do Hip-Hop but ended up doing
UKG because it was popular during the late 90s-early 2000s.

Does anybody know or remember Washer Gang. Mdu discovered these guys at a car wash, signed them and produced their album. They had a hit called "unzibenzeni". Not sure if spelling is correct.

Used to go like "Yooooh!!! Yooooh!! Yo baby yooooooh!! Tsa ku ranza baby, Tsa ku ranza maaaan....unzibenzeni man, Yooooh.

Mdu was definitely one of the illest producers back then. Guffy (From the group Tsitsibana - "Jakalas Vuka") was also sick as a producers and still is. A lot of cats don't know that he released a Jazz album around 1990.

Gabi Le Roux (dude that produced Chiskop and some of Mandoza's solo hits) was also on fire when it came to production.
Back then kwaito meant bizniz.
