As a producer you get asked a lot, if you feel you wasted a beat on certain artists. I usually reply "if they paid for it, its wasnt a waste."

Anyhow, which beats do you think certain artists wasted?

Dela Soul - Shopping Bags (off the grind date album)
Produced by Madlib

Madlib laced them with a dope club/crossover beat, and i feel they didnt capitalize on what could have been a really succesful song. Think they got the flows all wrong on this one. The beat was phat, the hook was on point. But the raps were the weak link.

Cant think of any local songs off the top of my head. Can anyone?

with the excepetion of 'i dont battle nomore', all Ootz beats eva used by reason

Have you heard headbanger hip hop music???
Thats the shit right there

i didn't really like that one either...maybe i've grown out of that whole proverb/reason sound
it just seems kinda played. 'punchine mcs' irk me  :D

wasted:

Pitch Black - Its all real

THIS WASN'T A WASTED BEAT AT ALL!! in fact i think it's a 21st century cla**ic,
pitch black arent the best of lyricisists but they brought their A-game here..."got
it locked" was just as dope (although foxxy brown's verse wasnt all that)

these cats, punchline mcs or wteva (really they're just ONE-LINE MCs)
i can make up silly innuendos all day...it doesnt mean much...i say this
cuz alota cats always talk bout how "its all about the lyrics son, listen to
the words man". But wat does that mean 2 me if the words r so predictable
i know wat the cat's gona say b4 he even finishes the danm line.. in fact i
dont even rememba the last time i was like 'yo, who's THIS cat man'
see that shit ryt there's easy son,

yo, yo, yo
i stay on point like a pencil with my mental//
kick it ova the instrumental, u feel the Ba** SICK
like fundamentals//goin against my flow's not sensible//
like a bank, or money of sum sort..u a vegetable//
while i COME from behind u like a homosexual//
(these r the worst)

Jim jones and Game shouldnt have rapped on that "Cut Throut" track. That beat bangs no doubt. " If hip hop was a building id set it on fire and leave everybody in except Mya". WTF. Game .smh.
