As ive pointed out.the climate has become colder and more barren with regards to selling music. and with any business in fact.
We will now see what we call DOWNSCALING in major corporations.
Now with music i see the need for a DOWNSCALING as well.
I think you cannot justify investing in an artist anymore, if the artist does not give you a POP HIT. you cannot affort to lose on your entire investment anymore. its not fair on you and your family. The artist and the artists family.
Every artist now needs to MEET the business requirements. ie. produce a product that can be consumed by the largest market. Why? because this is the most likely way for you to bring back the Capital that has been used to "break" you into the scene.
videos, photo shoots,cd covers, clothes, travelling costs, food and shelter do not come for free. and they are becoming more costly.
These are only the IMMEDIATE costs in signing an artist.
So the key now is to maximise your potential gains!
Make the most marketable music, but still do it creatively and true to yourself as an artist(for the people).
U cannot be an artist for yourself and your friends anymore.the stakes are high(er).
If at this critical time there is no understanding of this. then truly, our labels will die.our artists will have no platform to release material.and god forbid, precious old hiphop, will cease to be a viable means to feed your children.
I used to say "Lets make HITS" and meant it as a matter of urgency, now it has become a matter of necessity.
Things will get worse before they get better!
Do it for the people. The people will reward you. and only once you claim these financial rewards, can you afford to do it for yourself.
