One more tool to add to the arsenal.

I've been playing around with delay a lot lately. Man, you can do some amazing things with such a simple tool.

My favourite trick, which I learnt over the weekend, is how to create interesting stereo spaces. Take my beat, double it up in two tracks, one panned hard left and the other hard right. Add a little delay - a tiny, tiny, tiny amount - on one, like a few grains of salt in a boiling pot of pasta.

It's amazing how polished such a little thing can make your track sound, and the places it takes you to. Or using delay on one isolated kick drum, to create this buzzing, whirring sound over a bridge. Been playing with an Alias beat and it sounds phenomenal.

I'm sure this is old news to everyone on here but I'm still learning. Rocked my world.

Any cool little tips you guys wanna share?

yeah i use the delay alot on acid pro and i always incoperate it with the reverb.
I duplicate the track at certain parts, lower the volume on it and add a delay and reverb, it sounds awesome.

@ ROB u absolutely right, the delay effect is a gem in any production outfit, since we droppin tricks leme give back to all ma Reason heads.

say you have a vocal sample, a nice one of about two bars in length, you chop it up and import it into the sequencer using say the NN19 sampler. once you have it in the sequencer go to the mastering suite and select the hiphop optioin. that will give the overall beat what seems like added gain (ie) the vocal sample will be louder. right click on the mixer and add the RV digital  reverb effect, what this will do is it will help you manipulate all the devices hooked into the mixer from their respective chanels on the mixer with the effect.

the next thing is to enable the EQ button on the chanel corresponding to your vocal sample (that you can play with as u may but its not where ma point is)..

go to the NN19 device that you used to import your vocal sample. hold on to the shift button on you keypad and right click on the NN19 device, a drop down menu will appear, go to create and select the DD-L1 digital line. now what holding down the shift button will do is it will circumvent the process of automatic conncetion. meaning that the new effect device (the DD-L1 digital line) wont be hooked into the NN19, now comes the trick...

when u hit the tab button (as my Reason heads should know) you can go to the back of the rack and can rewire devices however you please. what you will see is that the NN19 is connected directly to the mixer and the DD-L1 is not connected to anything. remember you want to use the effect on the vocal sample in the NN19 so this is what you do...

take the left audio output from the NN19 out the mixer and conncet it to the Left DDL1 input. notice the NN19 right output is still connected to the mixer. next take the DDL1 left output and connect it to the mixer.

hit the tab button again and return to the front of the rack, when there you can have fun with the DELAY and pimp up your vocal sample...

hope it helps cos its done all kinds of dope things for me...ONE ;)

Another great Reason trick. It does work best if you have a keyboard or another form of outboard MIDI hardware but it's not essential.

Patch a Reverb module into either your Redrum or NN19 (normally the drum machine as it works best with percussion). Make sure the module is patched into a single kick or a single snare, the  have the dry/wet knob on the module 'learned' by a knob on your keyboard (right click on the knob should get you there).

Set up a control data track in the sequencer and have your reverb active, doing it's thing. At the end of four bars or eight bars, flip the knob on the keyboard all the way over to wet for an ILL fill pattern.
