I don't normally do this but just wanted to find out if I was the only one in the same situation. Just yesterday I was at a petrol station and ran into a dude I had matriculated with. Now last time I saw this dude was back in 2004 when we got our matric results. We stood around talked shit and then split in different directions not knowing what we wanted to do with our lives or where the road of fate was going to take us. Now as you know not everyone in your cla** is your close friend who you joked with but everyone knows everyone and at one point in your high school career you must have spoke to everyone in the cla**. So anyway back to me talking to this dude at the petrol station, So I ask him whats he doing at a f***ing caltex and yet he got a distinction in science and maths, so the dude replies that he is saving money for his studies to do some chemical degree in some shit that will land him a job working for Anglo mining and shit. At that moment I was impressed like wow there's another dude from my school that is working his a** off to make something of his life. The sad part is that not all the dudes that I matriculated with have a success story, matter of fact its a handful of people who have done anything with there lifes. I attended Highlands North Which was a stones throw away from Alexandra and alot of people would have blamed the geographical location of my school on its sucess rate, but truth is we has rich dumb a**es from Sandton who had everything but were dumb as f*** or just plan lazy. My point is as we were talking he told me that one dude who was in my geography cla** got 27 years for armed robbery. This is the same person who I sat next in an exam and he was an average D student. Then another dude is in for murder and is surving life! is this normal? and the list go's on!

My question is what drives a person to do this? How could someone just wake up one morning and decide that this is what i want out of life! Is this normal or did I just go to a school filled with outlaws and criminals?

you went to highlands? what year?
I couldnt help but laugh when you said that some of the cats were in jail, dude come on it's highlands after all ::) ::)

I might just know you.

my high school in Cape Town some of the girls got married and have kidsss , most still in varsity.
Guys doing pretty well, half way across the world , in the army , medical students , law students and then you get the odd few that dropped out. and same for the school in JHB.

Im not doing to bad for myself either 8)

lol!!!

yeah have had this kinda convo with a few of my mates err'time we see one of our school mates either more succesful than we are or less or in jail. it is true one moment, one bad judgement, wrong move could cause a change in life.  when u look at it. it took one decision to get u where u are. its the same decision we all had to make at some point to get to where we all are...

the worst is seeing or hearing a dude u used to school with has HIV. always buggs me out.

success in life is overrated. a man needs only the means to a eke out a few drinks, eat now and then, keep a few friends and have a woman in his own bed.

well nothing warmfull towards me and its your opinion at the end of the day, BUT...... to say success is overrated is like saying man kind should not push themselves to the limit. Because with hard work comes gr8 rewards. Now those average stuff you like doing is a man with box thinking.
