If the bolshevik revolution- was wrong then we cannot have an argument on the pros and cons of Communism if the bolshevik revolution was wrong- then Mandela\Tambo\Hani\Slovo\Sisulu\Mbeki are a murderers for establishing our revolution if the bolshevik revolution was wrong- then every single revolution preceeding and proceeding it was wrong.

We can argue whether it was right or wrong but we all have to agree it had disastrous effects which the affected countries are still trying to recover from. Any communist who refuses to acknowledge the failures of this system, or rather its implementation must be seen to have sinister intentions.
Stalin might have considered killing millions of Russian people, 20th century slave labor and concentration camps just as "a statistic" but imagine a whole country´s population(such as our dear South Africa) wiped out just to force a political system to work. The people you have mentioned Govan Mbeki(RIP), Hani(RIP) & Slovo(RIP) might have been communist and revolutionary like the Reds but they were prepared to compromise and find ways to make the system work for the ordinary South Africa.
This approach has obviously has not been totally successful. Most South Africans are still in poverty, lack of health care, lack of education etc. Although crime and AIDS are killing the population, South Africa still enjoys "stability" only found in a few African countries (AS AFRICANS WE SHOULD ALL BE AIMING HIGHER THAN THIS!).

If you are a South Arican or an African for that matter, you have nothing to be happy about, you are product of the continent that suffered the slave trade, colonialism, genocide apartheid... etc(add your choice of the history of the last 400 years- its their history anyway)
the problem with capitalism is it is not honest, it uses god to mask its worship of MONEY if you need to worship anything let it be the people (you call it the state) and Man rather than PROFIT MARGINS
Communism is alive and well

With the few 10 years of "democracy" that I have experienced, man I aint complaining. I agree that combined with the system of free trade that is Capitalism it is full of corruption, exploitation and so on. But we have seen that Communism is also capable of this AND even worse. I am not sure how well Communism is doing but Capitalism is alive and well!
So what is the unique solution for Africa given years of exploitation and so on? I dont know but rationally discussing our challenges on platforms like this is certainly a good start!
Curious to find out what everybody else thinks?
ps. The worst ex-Communist I have ever seen must be Mac Maharaj?!
