It is a sad situation when a democratic people are stripped of hope, which is one of the only driving forces behind a progressive and stable society. The hopelessness has now evolved into it's ultimate form, apathy.
Just because some of us are living comfortably, we do not give a second thought to trying to change the situation in order to alleviate the harsh conditions for those who aren't as fortunate.
But i'm almost sure if you had a little less cash in your pocket and a little less food in your stomach, you would be the first to want change now!!!!!
I have a feeling that we will face a similar situation to Kenya after our election. Because there is an anger-fuelled desparation lurking beneath all the confusion. A civil war is coming!
Don't mistake my feelings and insistence on abstaining from the vote as apathy. I do a lot of things on community level, which I don't feel the need to shout out to the whole world, because then it would be like I am doing it only for the glory, kinda like a politician. No one needs to know what I do, just doing it and feeling good about myself is enough for me.
I just feel that there is nothing to be gained by voting whatsoever. I have lost all hope, true, but that was when I was about twelve and I lost hope in humanity altogether. We are such a pathetic bunch that we would rather persist in letting people, who have shown time and again that they are unfit to govern, keep f***ing us, instead of demanding some service.
We would rather go vote and then sit back and act as if we did our part and wait for another five years, instead of engaging in ma** civil disobedience and telling them that we won't stand for this shit.
This is one of the reasons I am so proud of the Greek and French anarchist movements. they make me feel that there is still some hope, by dumping the country into complete chaos as soon as they feel that they are being f***ed.
Over here we have the pathetic excuse for an anarchist movement called Zabalaza, which is so desperate to be accepted that they rename themselves the Zabalaza anarchist-communist movement in an attempt to acquire some form of recognition, while missing the point that anarchy and communism, though similar are basically irreconcilable. I wonder if this is an attempt to cosy up to the SACP and maybe also get in on the big bucks, while pretending you are doing it for the people.
