This is hardly the place for a CPT versus JHB debate.African Hip Hop is MUCH bigger than 2cities. Take your petty squabble elsewhere we on some more important sh*t here.

well..its enevitable...it will eventually get to a cape and jozi thing...unfortunate but true..i have met alot o cpt cats mostly from gugz and Langa and all black..and there aparantly is a "Poor Black, African, kasie".."middle cla**, American" ,"kalitz" thing....so its just as bad...
i know a cat Sketch Xhosa rappin MC...by choice coz he a Xhosa poet and english just lacks the click aliteration he needs to express his work..so he raps in Xhosa and getsshots fired at him..so..if ppl in CPT are taking shots at him...for that..best belive cpt cats will take shots at GP cats on some language rep yourself shit..its complex..and i doubt that one thread can address all the issues but best belive..the longer this thread gets the bigger we will all see HOW BIG people make of such a trivial issue...

I FOR ONE..dont care how you rap as long as you repin hip hop and yo self and me...if you start faking it ..everyone will see right thru you anyway and will pay you no mind.which brings me back to one point..a faker can be spotted a mile away so why waste time tryna complain bout it...

" real rekigniz real..game rekignize game"

Jozi f***ing up the game....ouch...but the cape aint "saving" the game either..

Sorry to revive this old dead and buried thread but I had the pleasure of purchasing the new Godessa Album "Spillage"
Theres some very interesting Social commentry on Track 7 "These Times".
Where Burni laments:
Quote:

"On the topic of Xenophobia,Southern Africa,
Why are we mellanin(sp) intolerant,
Question mark, exclamation point, full stop...
As if we fear black dominance,
Are we not from the African continent,

We are one...
We are powerful as one
Diverse, but,
One nation,
One Continent,
One People,
One...One..One
AFRICA,
but the battle has only begun.."

Kinda makes puts this whole discussion in context doesnt it?..an exercise in futility?..Maybe?..

hip hop is my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the lines and curl my back to reality-
the beat washes away from my soul the dust of everyday life-
Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent!

On the Godessa thing...

They have at times very pronounced American accents, and yet they sound dope as all hell. Their lyrics are tight, meaningful and relevant - why should an accent get in the way of that? The answer is, it doesn´t. Accents mean f*ck all, it´s what the MC says that counts.

word?

I was just about to reply that Godessa rap in Afrikaans too sometimes I love that. "Tippie von die tale" is as dope as any track that has come out of SA. Definitely feeling that. Big up to the Sisters.

an NY accent coming from a cat who just picked it up from hip-hop CDs is and will always be a major turn off - whether u agree or not, like it or not... u ain´t got choice my man, kna’m sayin’, word!

Wherever international music is imported into a local scene, three things usually occur.  The first event is the actual importation of the music.  Second, local musicians imitate the new form of music. Finally, the music is a**imilated into local cultures and turned into a completely new form of music on its own; a new genre that mixes the original imported style with styles that had already been in within that culture.

That was an american writing on the emergence of Hiphop culture in SA. I think he may have a point.
If so what phase if South African Hip Hop at?

It´s very sad but...we’re at a stage were cats who are got
the well-deserved  recognition (bcos they worked hard to get there) are now making records with "fame and fortune" in mind...as young the scene iz in Mzansi it already haz gangrene and if we don’t do something to get rid of it it’s gonna spread thru out until the whole game iz infected or dies b4 it even flourishes into a billion rand industry...we all wanna eat off this sh*t  but if money is the main reason for it we’re headed for doom...
