They have release several acclaimed albums, remixed the likes of Masters at Work and Fat Freddys Drop and have become a fixture on the dancefloor as much as in the listening booth.
MIO and Sheer music are giving anyone with a desire to make fresh South African music a chance to remix Jazzanova’s “lie” from their latest album, “Of All the Things” and stand a chance of winning several amazing prizes, including a digital release of the winning remix on legendary label Sonar Kollektiv, some top-notch music gear and software courtesy of Turnkey Music and Multimedia and several days studio time in Cape Town’s mad music laboratory, the Red Bull Studios.

Quality:
Firstly to win this remix competition your remix needs to be ‘quality’, which means it needs to be a piece of music that sounds professional, good enough to slam the dance-floor and / or send a headphone listener into another sonic dimension. But don’t fear: You don’t need a professional studio to do a great quality remix. You just need some basic gear, a bit of know-how and a lot of pa**ion. MIO will be running a series of articles on affordable and free music software, music-making tutorials alongside revealing some amazing remix tips and tricks.
Style:
The only rules to the style of music that is created out of the remix, is that it is a fresh South African sound. The sounds of Pretoria House (DJ Mujava), Urban Dance (DJ Clock), Kwaito (Zola, Mdu, Arthur), SA Jazz (Abdullah Ibrahim, Hugh Masekela) or even South African Rock (The Springbok Nude Girls, Desmond and the Tutus) should form the foundation of what inspires your remix and this will be a major draw card when it comes to judging.

Judging will begin on the 13th of April and the winners will be announced on Monday the 27th of April.
Prizes:
1st Prize:
- A digital release of the winning remix of Jazzanova’s “Look What You’re Doing to Me” on Sonar Kollektiv.
- A copy of Cubase 5, probably one of the best studio software packages on the market, courtesy of Turnkey Music and Multimedia.
- 4 days studio time in Red Bull Studio’s Cape Town
(Accommodation and flights will be arranged if winner not from Cape Town).
2nd Prize
