it's too noisy. it comes across more as parody than it does satire, and i generally don't find that shit funny. it's distracting and juvenile, and too wiling to sacrifice its point by having you appreciate how funny its gags are.

Isn't parody just as worthy as satire though? I reckon the writing on Hayibo is mostly fantastic. It's terrifically edited and put together, and although sometimes they layer on the jokes a bit thick it does make a point.

politcal parody is a waste to me because it does nothing to contest what it's against: it makes you laugh, shake your head, and move on. i agree, though it is well written for what is and it's put together well.

it's kind of like what you said in the other thread about Zubz and him being a sincere political rapper in a time when they've become a rarity. i'd like to see, for a change, a heavily politicised publication which was directed at and maintained by the youth. this parody thing seems more like a backing down to me - attacking shit obliquely instead of sticking out and articulating what you really think and feel.

I don't know. These are good points, but I've always kind of felt that the most damning way to take the steam out of corrupt politicians (as opposed to exposing their wrongdoings fully, which is what good investigative journalism is for) is to laugh at them. To completely and totally take the piss out of them, which is what Hayibo excels at.

I've been thinking about the new Zubz btw. I haven't played it again after the first few listens - and to this day I'm still bumping Headphone Music. He may have shot a little too high with this one.

this will probably never happen unless if there is some young Patrice Motsepe type willing to throw money at such a publication coz I doubt it would be popular with advertisers.
