don't mean to "hate" or derail the thread, but can someone tell me what i'm missing with this dude?

his joints sound very 'poppy' to me.

Yes, his joints are very very "Pop orientated".
That's why you go to Ameen. You go to Ameen when you want a beat that is going to have ma** appeal.Something that is going to get you radio play.

I have told Ameen that I dont like some of his beats and I gave him reasons as well.
But:

Ameen is a trained musician who plays the guitar as well as the piano. He is schooled in sound engineering.
this comes to the fore when you listen to his beats...they have that "crisp" element.
And , (I'm not a producer) but they always have this "full" sound.
Ameen builds beats from scratch.
I LOVE PRODUCERS WHO SAMPLE ( Like Hipe, Ooz and Nyambz who astound me in their ability)
But .....there is also something magical about building a beat entirely from the  foundation up.

that's my five cents.

at trompie...I have said this many times before ..you do good work.
keep it up my brother

this is not a lie. i'd only add that that whole tape was a cla**ic (still got my original). Selwyn went hard as f*** at the beginning. he should get with Amu and Wikid and roll something out. i can't lie i messes with "eJozi" ;D.

some of Ootz's beats for KONFAB's album are bananas. f*** local, some of my favourite beats anywhere in the world (in the style that I like).

Jaak's beats for his next project Galant are also sick. Definitely something for the underground heads.

Loving Afrika(ans), Dit Moet Net Yt, Sweet, Skęrts Bruin all produced by Hipe from Flętse Maniere by Jaak

Co-sign all the usual dudes too (Hipe, Nyambz, Omen, BK, Draztik, Sibot etc... you know who they are).

Dreamer - Slikour - (Don't know who made the beat)
Come Again - Syntax ft Fifi (Beat made by Nyambo)
A lazy afternoon - AQ & Thir[13]teen - (Beat made by Nyambo)
Cheers - Mycbeth (The Anvils) - (Beat made by Nyambo)

shit...Nyambo sikwidit huh...

Some of the production on ProKid's first album was CRAZY!!!
(sidebar: anyone remember the on-air battle between Kado and Maggz...lol...actually I'ma search my archives for the recording now)

Back - ProVerb - (Beat made by Danone)
Time - Last Days Fam - (Beat made by Landmarq)

speaking of which, some of Landmarq's beats on R-Senic's soon-to-be-dropped album are bananas. Actually Trompie's beat on the album is one of my favourites. watch this space.

Another dude with dope beats is pH - think he's now part of the Octave Couplet click. Spent a few evenings in dude's studio and my word, that guys packing some other kinda heat.
I'm like a bunch of dynamite sticks - i'm bound to blow

Qba - Toast of the Town, hate the patterns on this track felt like it set back flowing somewhat mara the beat is nought to trifle with
Writers Block - Writers Block, could do without the last 2verses but when X the 24th sez Ill hit so hard, you wont hit back(...divine strike eliminates/the nature of the turnbased) my mind drools
Rhamcwa - Phuncuka Bembamba, dont feel most vernac joints on the personal but this tracks level of justice shant be scoffed at!
The Anvils - Baby Slow Down, had an al capone era vision when i heard this joint probably my favourite beat on that ep
MrC - I Used To Love, i saw this on his myspace then he stopped updating
Ootz - Afronaut Interlude, i was lucky enough to discuss this beat with ootz on myspace really strengthened the bond i got with the joint, plus this was my smoker anthem after a blunt if i heard this joint i got higher "Now lets not get into a heated discussion"
Nyambz - Berts Beat, i remember nyambz here uppin lil clips of him learning to be a dj & always thought this was the fruits of that... I could be wrong & it could be MrC in the starring role of that recollection
