Thanks guys! One love.
Of course, my prob is that I'm a fiend for buying CDs, so this (along with my ever-expanding 'To Buy' hip-hop list) is going to bankrupt me. I trust I can crash at one of yours when I'm evicted.
Why? Optical media format will soon be obsolete. Some laptops don't even come with optical drives anymore.
CD's take up space. Use more power during playback. Get scratched.
Oh for f***'s sake.
Tate, you worked with me on the Hiphocalypse. You know me. When have I EVER indicated that I would give something up because it's obsolete?
I love CDs. I started listening to music when vinyl was on the backfoot, so it's always been CDs that I've bought and treasured. I love everything about them. I don't wish to tread out arguments you've all read a billion times, but the physical object is better. It makes the pleasure centres of my brain jump around going "woweeewoweewowowowoweee!". This isn't always the case - I'm no advocate for reel-to-reel tape recording over digital, for instance - but for music it's a little different.
Yes, they take up space, use more power and get scratched. But I love 'em. And you, who also came up in the era of CDs and scratchy dubbed TDK tapes, should know better.
I'll take a reggae collection of (eventual) monolithic proportions which I can sit and flick through, stash away and show to my kids someday.
