I started reading but have'nt finished, "One Thousand years of Solitude". Loved the fantastical, poetic writing it's something that African, especially West African writers are marvelous at.
The South American writers are good too, it's folk story like writing, I'll get back to when I'm done...

true. south american writers are a beautiful. a love story.

i loved this. its the kind of introduction to a writer that has you remembering where you were the day you picked it up.

theres also:

- love in the time of cholera (which has been made into a movie)
- chronicle of a death foretold
- soul activist. poet. flower. fairy -

for sure i read one hundred years of solitude and i'd rate it as one of those life changing books lying next to my copy of the Alchemist and Heart of Redness...

But i think there are many writers who are on par with South American writers right here on this continent. The same themes are always lurking because we've shared similar struggles...

Life of Pi was groundbreaking... they have really mastered the art of telling fictional stories with undelying messages and profound meanings... paulo coelho as well

I'm not sure how to answer tha question, because i'm not sure what you mean.

By the way. Has anyone seen movie, 'Love in the time of cholera'. Calling it pathetic would be kind. The acting was abyssmal...and everything was rushed. One would swear that the story is about a perverted old stalker who stalks his victim into loving him.

Of course that is the plot, but the book was poetic about it. ;D

I hope they leave the rest of his books alone.
