So here's a question.

I'm making a mix of 2009's best verses. If I play a selection of the verses (cut from their songs) one after the other, does it make them less powerful? In other words, if you hear them outside the context of the whole track, does it neuter them?

Example: K'Naan's Somalia verse two is in there. Does it feel odd to listen to when removed from the song and played by itself?

in my opinion Rob, i think it will, unless you organize them categorically, say, theme based chops...otherwise its going to be a very haphazard mash up of differing beats, differing flows, different moods and temp, not to mention execution...

if you group them in themes that are similar, this negates the probability of them just sounding randomly chopped & grouped together simply under the basis of them being nice verses (in their respective tracks) for 09....!

granted, its more WORK, but the benefits are that by isolating them into theme based mixes, u can have more product to dish out  ;)

Cheers. I understand that totally; at the moment it does sound like a jarring mash. I've got Corey Gunz setting it off, closely followed by Raekwon, K'Naan, Mos Def, Robo The Technician and a bunch of others. It's not working.

But it would be really cool to get right...

u just called a lotta work upon self.
i cosign wit oints der, putting them under a certain theme wud help.
are u gonna be using they own beats on that or u looking to cum at it differently? as in u cumin up wit a beat and have 'em verses over those beats u selected just so to help on the flowing of tracks, others can still use original beats tho, it all depends.
the greatest rides u'd ever experince is upon the DEATH STAR....

No, I'm using their own beats. I'm just cutting the verses from the songs.

Perhaps if you included some sort of transitional interludes (e.g. cuts, scratches, explosions, voicelinks, drops, etc) then it wouldnt have to be one long "track".

P.S. Royce da 5"9 - Motown 25 verse NEEDS to be on here.

Wasn't Motown 25 last year?

I've already got that, it isn't helping...lots of explosions and F1 drivebys.
