Hmmm....have u truly watched Napoleon Dynamite?
IMHO thats the most 'unamerican' movie in the selection u mentioned. Dont see the problem. Napoleon Dynamite is a great movie - very refreshingly different from the normal hollywood stereotypical script and packaging. Sure... not everyone might take a liking to it....simply because the humour is not as easy to grasp - much more postmodern subtle humour (ala the office or 'extras'). Despite the fact that they're from idaho - all the characters are brilliantly juicy (sure most will remember their napoleon from their high school), the 80s feel is encaptured in every scene of the movie (look at the mise en scene, the colours etc). Napoleon has the make-up of a cult movie - more so than any of the others (even kill bill).
go see it. the best movie i've seen since 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' - I mean...how often do u get to see a movie that leaves u guessing and anticipating the next scene. And the ending is brilliant. I think...ultimately... u just didnt get it - or it just wasnt ure cup of tea.
'Goshhhhh. You're such an IDIot.'
OK, Ed, fair enough, but I just don't agree. I've seen Napoleon Dynamite and IMHO it is a piece of donkey poo masquerading as something tragically hip. For it to beat out the technically brilliant and superbly scripted Spiderman 2 and the sheer balls-out adrenalin of Kill Bill is a travesty.
It may be true that the audience desides who gets the awards, but let's face it, that audience is a bunch of thick US teenagers who only watch MTV and thus have their cultural perceptions shaped by that channel. true, that's a generalisaiton, but one which I feel has merit. Thus, MTV shapes the opinions of their viewers who decide who wins. If MTV says Lindsay Lohan is cool, then the viewers will think she is cool. Thus, Lohan wins. There can be no other coherent explanation.
I'm taking this waaaay too seriously Apologies. :-)
