AAAh, doods(- I know I spelt it wrong). The illest event of the year.

Bhlakrhoze, Don't Sleep, I couldn't sleep... you opened my minds eye to see ancestors unseen. Konfab's words painting a thousand pictures, x was verbally gifted, Vernon Viscus was vicious, Kaptin yo, "Where's Ben SHARPA!". Sorry if I left anyone out. To those that went, I suggest you guys fill everyone on AG in about what went down and wot about it.

Chilling like two villains next to each other,- Nat and Bhlak. There seemed to have been an interconnection there...

It would be nice to get some honest feedback. Criticism. We put alot of work into the party.... would be great to get some suggestions on how to improve it.

Things i found could be better:
- need to arrange line-up better to keep momentum going.
- sound... even though better than every other 'hiphop' party i been to recently could still go smoother.
- some more 'friendly' beats
- i find that at some point in the night... after 1 or 2 when ppl gettin pissed too much conscious content gets tirin (this mostly a crit to the artists: structure your performance better... and PERFORM. just standin on stage rattlin down rhymes dont always cut it).

artists to feature?
less performances more music?
wha**up peeps?

let us know.... and no a** kissing. a 'That party rawked duuuuuuuuude bruuu' wont help no one (well...xept our marketing dept).

Maybe u should put the lighter emcees first 'cos I noticed mostly only the hard heads left behind in the audience at the end. Dished out too many prizes at once. -That's it. Didn't see u on the decks as much as Humma though, why's that?

Yo Ed I dun thawt I tol u last nite but I'll repeat my self.
i agree wit you in most respects.
I know the objective is to have the Drudge as a refuge from rampant commercialism, but you need to cover costs and you already hav the hearts of the heds who cum for the hard underground ish, but they do not a profit make, or even a break even and I'm sure ya'll blackmisters are realisin this.
Women clubbers make parties, if there are women ther, more women will come, and if there are lots of women, lots of men will also come.
Girls like to dance, this is good cos they get thirsty, then guys buy them drinks, and the guys will also buy lots of drinks for themselves, in many cases to tolerate the music.
If you want to make the Drudge Dialects parties which make enuff cash to survivie and pay the peeps who work hard to put them 2getha, then you need to find the balance tween underground and approachable, cos while I was feelin the  deep content and mad skilled flows on display, most of the women were sittin in the corner lookin bored.
Fine a few were right in the thick of it, but they're those heds who I was tokkin bout, they are not enuff to make a profitable party.
The whole " Oh but we gotta be real" thing is the bullshit the pussy's who didin't work to put the party 2getha spout and they will neva be anythin but dirty backpackers, they DO NOT and NEVA hav grown hip hop, they want it to remain exactly as they feel it shud be, they stagnate and ultimately destroy.
The party's flow was too disjointed and the dwindling audience was testament to that, you cant start hot and then slow down to a stop b4 the end, you hav to pick up pace to a tumultous crescendo, with maybe a brief respite, a tiny breathing space in the middle.
The party is supposed to overpower the peepl, they're there to be carried away, they need to feel that they hav no control. Every successive track MUST hit them harder and pull them in more.
Breathing space gives them time to think too much, they then start caring what other peepl think and want to look cool, so they cant be too in to it.

So, friendlier tracks  - YES
betta flow to lineup - YES
DONT START TOO LATE
Think about the non heds who are tryin to get into Hip Hop, they are the growth.
KILL THE f***A WHO WAS DOIN THE SOUND, once you do a soundcheck, stick with those settings, dont play wit the faders.
A nicely rehearsed stage show would be nice, but I suppose that aint "real", Black August was a concious show, but f*** it rocked, I busted moves like I was Boogaloo Shrimp.

Thats what you should be aiming at, and thers no reason why you cant do it, you got the talent and drive.

If anybody, blackmist faction or otherwise got issue wit my statements, I'm easy to find, I speak from bout five years experience workin in clubs and helpin out wit parties, and I bought my 1st car off that shit.
NOBODY TELLS ME I'M COOL, HARD TO TALK WHEN YO TEETH CHATTERING.

I'd give it 7/10

When I first got there at about 11pm i thought "Finally! this is the shit". Packed, hot and sweaty. Sound was just about acceptable. X was hyping up the crowd like a pro. There was a really nice little battle between TOP and Steel to win a hoody,,, they both tore it up. The momentum was there and Maniac Crew (?) dropped 2 or 3 dope hard-a** joints that had everyone hype. Archetypes quickly followed and killed it again with a crazy but slick performance.

After this it was downhill all the way. The sound f***ed out. Konfab and the boys came on stage and despite the fact that I love their shit , they sounded like a typical SA rap act,,, 4 dudes shouting their lines over a beat you can't hear. Now I know for a fact that their beats are tight because I mixed and mastered all of them so I would love to know what happened there.

After they performed X deserted his post. There were no more giveaways, the stage was left empty and everyone started drifting away. At this point most people I was with thought the show was over. After what seemed like at least 20 minutes BhlackRhoze came on stage with little or no introduction and started with her spoken word performance. Now I'm a ma**ive fan of Rhoze but you cannot do spoken word at 2am when people need momentum to keep them partying. She picked up the pace but it was too late by then, about 60% of the crowd had drifted off.

Ben Sharpa came on after Rhoze and it was criminal to see such a talented MC performing to an empty room. Despite this, he gave an excellent performance which really deserved a bigger crowd.

I went home at 2.45am,,, way too early for a night that started so well.

Anyway,,, I totally agree with everything Syntactic said. People come to parties to get high, dance (yes dance!), socialise and hear great music. I don't want to listen to jiggy retarded american music about cars and jewels but I do want my 'underground' content to be delivered in a party-friendy way. Hard beats, good sound system, properly thought-out line-up (and how about listing the times MCs will be performing and sticking to it?).

I'll definitely be a Drudge Dialect Part III though :)

wow. thanks guys. must say most of what is covered here is what i was thinking bout most of the weekend.
lineup - too long, too dense. time - too long. balance - audience diversity!!!! sound - can ALWAYS improve.
it was just too long basically with too many artists, with too much to say. none of this highlight of show stuff, next time im going in the first group! even i was tired.

but ja. thanks.

valuable feedback i think dplanet hit it on the head blackmist was actually the downer poorly planned set and waaaay too long chased everybody away everything that came before that was off the chains don't really think there were too many acts though they could have been arranged better to be more seemless the main criticism i've received is that it was a bit disjointed up down up down and that was the main issue a lot was learned though will be even better orchestrated next time

y0 k-fab,,, i really don't think it was your set that chased people away, it was the sound,,, the sound f***ed out just as you started. I noticed that when your first track came on it came out really loud for about 2 seconds then the sound disintegrated. I believe that archetypes' tracks aren't mastered and I know that yours are. It is possible that the extra decibels being pumped out by the mastered tracks f***ed up the settings. Just a theory anyway.

It is a well known phenomenon; if you play hard tracks on a shit sound you will scare people away. Likewise, four guys shouting over a hard track on a shit sound will scare them away even faster. You would be amazed what you can get away with playing if the sound is good [refer to my post on 'sound system culture'].

Please please please find the extra money to hire a sound engineer next time. Charl (the sound engineer who mixed/ mastered Tru's album) also does live shows. Give him a call,, i'm sure he wouldn't charge much.

Also,,, look into hiring a rig. There isn't one club in cape town with a decent sound system.
