Now Tek, the way I understand what you saying, is changing the discourse which signifies hip hop right? In order to counter-act this negative mindset?
Hey bra fully, thats the ideal that peeps who aren't satisfied with the current state of hip hop use to fuel themselves to try and effect change to their own individual viewpoint...AND THAT IS the Problem!.......EVRIBODY wants to change hip hop to the way THEY want it...you got millions if not billions of individual ideas that compete and cancel each other out, and that the way it has and always will be.....this is because each individual has their own idea about the reward they want out of this action for the work they do. So instead of a unified front for change you get a shitload of small groups aiming at various targets, so they never break the wall down they just scratch the paint at a lot of diffrent places.
A further and probably bigger problem is that the rules for the hip hop game have been set already man, its been around for years....
Its like kids playing, the kid who starts the game decides the rules, he might let some of his homeys make a rule or two, but he maintains control. You can't change his game, you either join as his homey or you go off and start your own game, and it cant be the same game cos you'll set different rules of your own and he's set the standard, so everybody will just see you as a copycat, if you bite his style...and they won't argue thats its his cos he did it first.
So Tek, you can set your own rules to you and yo boyz ideals but if you change the rules completely, its not hip hop (sure YOU and YOUR PEEPS might call it hip hop and a few folks who agree with you...BUT there WILL be a whole lot more people who think you full of shit, either cos they don't agree with your ideals OR because they just don't like you), and if its justa tweaking of existing rules you just seem like a biter or a small side-line within the original game...basically you become a franchise.
This is what hip hop is. There'll always be voices of dissent, they are required to give the scene legitimacy. You can work within the system and exist at the fringe and be very happy or you'd have to get EVRIBODY in the world to just ignore hip hop as it is, and keep doing that till it died out completely and then start over.
I'm only inclined to put forward this one viewpoint which is pessimistic for a reason, I want to make you angry, because angry people reACT.
When a situation seems futile, some people say "f*** it the, why should i do anythign if my individual action WON'T effect any significant change?" and I suppose they might have a point, BUt ME, I'm the kinda guy that says "f*** you, so I'm gonna lose anyway? Well then motherf***er lets go, I'll lose but best be damn sure that you gon get f***IN HURT cos I've got nothign else to lose."
So I fight on, and feel free to join cos misery loves company.
