The 7th Annual South African Hip Hop Awards are just around the corner. Accolades will be given to active members within the industry. Winners receive a statue that is called a Pyramid. The show will boast a number of appearances, live performances and tributes by today’s leading musicians. This will be pre-recorded to be broadcast on SABC 1, SABC 1 will communicate the broadcast details as part of the build up to the awards.

Whilst working on the #LookAtTheTeam joint project (coming up by Jimmy Wiz and myself) documented their journey and parts of the project’s creation. The episodic documentary (on my Lions Den vlog series) is to understand what’s to come when they finally release the offering sometime in November.

Afrikaans rapper HemelBesem has released the music video for his 2013 album’s title track “YMCMBesem”.
The music video for “YMCMBesem” is the third music video after previously having released music videos for “Kêrels By Candlelight” and “Hoe Salla”. The new video was shot in the city of Utrecht in The Netherlands and was directed by Arno De Haas and his Careface Productions team. The inaugural Hugh Masekela Heritage Festival will bring communities together through music and celebrate our South African heritage on 28 September at the Soweto Cricket Oval (The Elkah Stadium).
During a recent interview with Bra Hugh, as he is lovingly referred to in the music circles, he passionately spoke about music, heritage and traditions. Hugh continued to speak about his time growing up and the importance of ones’ heritage:

There has been a call for all spontaneous dancers in Gauteng schools, to partake in a life time opportunity to showcase their talent on huge platform. The Dance 2 Yo Rhythm, Hip Hop talent competition forms part of the Gauteng Carnival 2013. This project is powered by the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation with the intended effect of powering the youth through fun mediums like dance and to also highlight safety in these communities by combating teenage pregnancy, underage drinking and drugs in the community. The carnival has over 15 000 people in attendance, thus creating the biggest platform in the country for an upstart dancer, graffiti artist, poet or emcee.

The three-city South African tour kicks off at the CTICC in Cape Town on the 7th November before moving to Johannesburg Stadium on the 8th November and Durban’s Wave House on the 9th November priced at R350-R1900.
