The Best of Ekapa Hip Hop

The Best of Ekapa Hip Hop, is a long overdue new weekly hip hop night at the legendary live music venue The Purple Turtle. This event is aimed at promoting the hip hop industry and also uniting the huge hip hop community dispersed around the Western Cape and to satisfy the hungry hip hop masses.

Weekly live performances feature independent hip hop artists who have released cds/ep’s/dvd’s and entrance to the venue is free and during the evening venue’s clients are motivated to buy the artists products from the special sales table set up on the night.

Music Policy:
International Independent Hip Hop Releases by turntable wizard DJ Mario Roach and most important “The Local Mzansi Hip Hop Set” by legendary hip hop dj/activist/entrepreneur realROZZANO.

Open Mic Session:
Dj Mario will be on the decks dropping fresh instrumentals for mc’s to rock the mic, if mc’s can’t keep the pace of the dj beats they should not step up! Prizes will be given to the top mc of the night.

Hemelbesem

Hemel Besem aka Simon WITbooi was born in Vredendal but currently resides in Worcester.

Hemelbesem is a busy artist who has two albums out: AUTO-BIO-GRAFIE en DINK ‘n BIETJIE (under the alias Origin-0) he also features on DIE WOESTER STANDARD album. Hemel is the 2010 title holder of Best Freestyle MC at the annual Hip Hip Indaba. During 2009 he also released EVIL IS MAAKLIK which features many local mc’s, he is also part of Project Break Free which does extensive work in the communities.
