Foreign Legion Interview

21 May 2003 No Comment

My man Rush got to speak to these people’s to find out who they are, where they at and where they going. Peep it.

Ok start of by introducing to the people who makes up the group called Foreign Legion to the people of south africa?

Prozack: I’m Jordan, and (pointing to Marc Stretch and Design) that’s Joey and he’s Donny.

The b-boy manifesto “Full Time B-Boy” was the first release of wax for the group what year was that and who distributed it?

Prozack: 1998. We first made 300 mix tapes and handed them out ourselves. Marc Stretch still owes me 300 bucks for that shit.

South Africa haven’t heard a lot of F.L can you tell us when it was formed and what have been released by the group thus far?

Prozack: The 1st time, even before we got our name, it was that song, “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Stewart.
Marc Stretch: We were the session singers.

I heard you guys was in semi-retirement and some cats came knocking on your doors begging you to come back any truth to that?

Marc Stretch: Yeah, but we’re not rejoining the Jehovah’s Witnesses for anybody.

You just came back from a tour of Europe what is peoples response like and how many shows did you do?

Marc Stretch: They thought we were extremely handsome
Prozack: Way more handsome than we sound. WAY.
DJ Design: They didn’t believe we were in the group. They thought we were the dancers.

If I’m correct Prozack signed a deal with Dreamworks and released a record as well is he leaving the group or is it just his side project?

Prozack: (to Marc Stretch and Design) It depends on if you guys start getting your shit together. If it sells a million, I’m out. If is sucks, “what’s up FL? I was just jokin. I was gonna put you on.”
DJ Design: He was gonna form D13.

You guys got a new record “Playtight” wanna elaborate on that one for us?

Prozack: It’s historical fiction based on the R Kelly trial. It’s a story album.
DJ Design: It was two years in the making and cost over a hundred thousand dollars to put out.

I got the first single from the album the “Happy Drunk” song anybody in particular the track is talking about?

Prozack: Yeah, dude. Kelsey Grammar
DJ Design: “Arthur”
Marc Stretch: Ted Kennedy

You signed to Look records (thanks Monica for hooking me up with the new album) how independent are you guys and control over ya music is it limited or can you do ya own shit?

Prozack: We don’t even write the music or the lyrics. The label does.
Marc Stretch: Our understudies do it all.

Did you ever think people out in Africa knew who the Legion is and did you ever hear any hip hop coming from here?

DJ Design: I saw Full Time B-Boy or something like that on a S African Top Ten list a couple of years ago, but that’s it.

Hey Marc Stretch any chance you might sign to a South African soccer club like Ajax cape town or Kaiser chiefs?

Marc Stretch: For enough money and women, I’ll sign to anything.
Prozack: Tell ‘em you already signed to the Cape Town Hustlers.
Marc Stretch: Yeah, they got all these doo rags and shit: “You DON’T wanna score THAT goal, player.”

Thanks for hooking up the interview for me wanna give me ya last shouts?

Design: I’d like to say what’s up to Specs and Grip Grand and the whole Look Records Familia.
Prozack: Natalie Portman
Marc Stretch: Home Depot, the Hometown Buffet and the Rudy Giuliani Home for Wayward Boys.
