MAMELA!
damn!.. damn again! and again and again!!!
i've just finished listening to the lekgoa album... titled basetsana..
i also just heard a song the other day by TRO that has a line that goes:
"WHO SAYS KWAITO IS NOT FOR THE WHITE OU?"
damn again!!
if this is what whiteys are gonna be doing to kwaito, then i fear the future
of the genre..
jimmy, lenny, living colour... none of them have diluted or
distorted what rock music sounds like.. or is supposed to sound like.
but lekgoa... EISH... NO.. A MOERSE EEIISSHH!!!!
URBANTAINMENT y'all - get down on it.

WAT GAT AN?
Is the construction of rhymes all you ever think about? If you've got the
rhymes,
we've got the time. DC Art is on the look-out for MC's and DJ's who'd like
to
participate in metaphor. It brings hip hop heads together with poets and
rock
muso's. Call Adam @ 0835916769 / metaphor@netactive.co.za
metaphor - the fine art of the spoken word
DC Art, c/o Bree and Church Streets, hosts metaphor on Art Night (24
January).
metaphor features celebrated poet James Mathews, Lueen Conning, and Shelley
Barry in an event which brings hip hop MC's and DJ's, poets and musicians
(colony
and Soundsurf) together to celebrate the fine art of the spoken word.

MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS ASKED:
WHY?: do academics RESEARCH hipop?
WHY?: are so few SISTAHS active in hipop in SA/ Cape Town specifically?
MOST POPULAR POSSIBLE ANSWERS:
1. If (a) hipop = life and (b) using objective, systematic research methods
to search for the meaning of life results in (c) scientifically finding and
publishing data or research facts that could shed light on a socially
marginalized culture, and therefore (a+b=c) academics are indebted to
society to research and expose any marginalized culture for the enhancement
of the particular culture and everyday human life.
2. Hipop is a very under researched topic in South Africa. In other words,
few people think that hipop is a way of life and thus few Africans have
attempted to inform the public about this so-called "underground culture".
3. Few researchers in SA focus on the role that women play, or do not play
in hipop.
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
I'm organizing 3 *focus group sessions on the topic: Does gender
discrimination in hipop influence women's participation in rap music? If you
have any opinions on this, or know anyone who does, please contact me:
hipop69@hotmail.com/salah@netactive.co.za
NB: a *focus group session is when a group of 4 people come together to
discuss a specific topic and view their belief on what they think could
contribute to change! So...its more like a cipher session, really!
So, if you've ever asked yourself why there are so few women participating
in hiphop in SA or in your township specifically...lets talk!

eish joe...
Fred's dad was so old that he finally had to put him in a resthome. So the
first night Fred's dad was there he got a raging hardon and the nurse that
was there saw it. She decided to do the old guy a favor and suck em off, so
she did. The next day Fred came by and asked his dad how his first night at
the rest home went. His dad said he loved it there and never wanted to
leave.
The next day Fred's dad had fallen over the bathtub. As he was lying there
an
orderly had just happened to be passing by and saw him bent over the tub,
and
so he quickly came up behind the old man and crammed a woody up the old guys
corn hole. The next day Fred came back to see his dad and again asked him
how
he liked his second night at the new home. His dad replied that he hated it
there
and that he wanted to leave. His son was surprised and said, "But dad, I
thought
you said you loved it here." In which his dad replied, "You don't
understand, I
only get a hardon about once a month, but I fall down almost everyday!!"

HIPHOP
THE FOLLOWING APPEARED IN THE PREVIOUS EDITION...
"mass dosage, the owner of the HIPHOP HEADRUSH website, now owns the
official
"hiphop.co.za" domain... now he needs to get some more HIPHOP info on the
site and less RAP, GRAF and DEEJAY info..."
MASS DOSAGE RESPONDED WITH THE FOLLOWING:
"If you think Graf and DJ aren't Hip-Hop you really don't have a clue...."
THE EDITOR RESPONDED:
"HIPHOP is a term that refers to a "culture"(in our case an "interest" - it
does not have "culture" status in south africa yet ) that encompasses
EMCEEING, (scratch)DEEJAYING, AEROSOL ART AND B.BOYING.
HIPHOP is a multi-faceted culture... and each individual facet cannot be
referred to as HIPHOP...
RAP IS RAP
DJ'ING IS DJ'ING
B.BOYING IS B.BOYING
GRAF IS GRAF
none of these facets in their individual capacities can be referred to as
hiphop.... because they are not...
TOGETHER THEY MAKE UP HIPHOP... AND THEREFORE ANY STATEMENT REFERRING TO ANY
INDIVIDUAL FACET OF THE HIPHOP CULTURE AS HIPHOP IS FALLACIOUS..
...YOUR SITE IS FINE... I'M JUST RECOMMENDING THAT WHEN YOU REFER TO IT AS
THE
"HIPHOP" HEADRUSH - MAKE SURE IT IS A HIPHOP SITE... ALL FACETS..
OF COURSE THERE ARE 5 MORE FACETS, BUT SOUTH AFRICAN HIPHOP IS STILL
DEVELOPING... SO THOSE ARE IRRELEVANT..
REMEMBER...
4 X FACETS = HIPHOP... NOT 2.. OR 3... FOUR!!...
so to the hiphop headz... now you also know that there is no hiphop
in gauteng... there is rap, graf and deejaying.. NOT HIPHOP..

DJ TALK
guess who will grace the cover of Y-mag for february... with his "vet kop"?
none other than YFM deejay and SML host THATO SIKWANE.. bka DJ FRESH.
isn't that a bias? between him and fellow drive time show host GLEN LEWIS i
would like to think that glen is the bigger of the two.. industry politix..
damn again!
i got one chiskop vinyl to give away... to anybody who's a deejay in
durban.. if you know any durban deejays who play kwaito... hook me up.
THE FOLLOWING APPEARED INTHE PREVIOUS EDITION:
"do you think that romeo khumalo should leave ben dikobe in the 3 to 6
slot?"
A READER RESPONDED:
"well ben dikobe is one of the metro dj's who has it. he's just like sammy
t..a person
does not get bored listening to them. now, take glen lewis as an example,
the man is
busy practicing his accent and not his vocabulary...! ben should stay.
