MTV base and Fanta have joined forces to offer one young South African the gig of a lifetime: you could become the first ever South African VJ and win a contract to host MTV base World Chart Express – the brand new music chart show premiering on SABC1 on 28 September 2005 at the 6:30pm slot. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of being an MTV VJ, this is your chance to make it come true!

Have you got what it takes to be an MTV VJ? You don’t have to know how to sing or dance – your dynamic personality, passion for music, enthusiasm for global youth culture, and ability to represent MTV base is part of what you need. You must also be a South African citizen, aged 18-25, music-savvy, and well spoken in English and any Nguni language. Tough gig, huh?

MTV base and Fanta will hold live auditions from 09:00 to 19:00 at: HQ, Greenpoint, Cape Town on 20 August, Pop Art, Umhlanga, Durban on 21 August and Shoukara (off Rivonia Road), Johannesburg on 27 August. At each location, the MTV base crew will be on hand audition up to 1,000 qualified VJ hopefuls, giving each candidate just a few minutes in front of the TV cameras to strut their stuff and convince our judges that they have what it takes. MTV base will select just one finalist from each city. The finalists will be profiled within the first episode of MTV base World Chart Express and face-off for the title as part of the second episode to air on Wednesday 5 October. Our panel of judges as well as SMS and online voting from viewers will decide the fate of our finalists.

Commented Alex Okosi, General Manager & Vice President, MTV Networks Africa, “Young South Africans have a huge appetite for music from their local artists as well as music from international stars.
